Truth By Reason
About Truth By Reason
Truth By Reason examines claims, beliefs, decisions and actions through reason, evidence, ethics and practical consequences.
What Truth By Reason is
Truth By Reason is a project for questioning important claims and actions carefully. It is not limited to religion. It looks at belief, scripture, cults, psychic and paranormal claims, politics, war, economics, social behaviour, animal welfare, veganism, the environment, land management and moral responsibility.
Why it exists
Many ideas are protected by tradition, authority, emotion, fear, habit or social pressure. Some are religious. Some are political. Some are cultural. Some are commercial. Truth By Reason exists to ask whether those ideas are true, reasonable, ethical and consistent with reducing harm.
What it questions
- Religious teachings, doctrines and sacred texts.
- Cults, spiritual authority and harmful belief systems.
- Psychic, paranormal and supernatural claims.
- Government, war, economics and institutional decisions.
- The behaviour of individuals, organisations and public figures.
- Animal welfare, veganism, sentience and human treatment of animals.
- Environmental decisions, land management and human responsibility for nature.
How it should work
The aim is not to attack people. The aim is to test ideas, claims and actions honestly. A belief, tradition, policy or action should be open to questioning when it affects truth, morality, suffering, freedom, animals, nature or human life.
Basic principle
Question claims clearly. Look for evidence. Separate facts from interpretation. Consider consequences. Be willing to correct mistakes when better evidence appears.
