Religion or belief system

Buddhism

A diverse family of Indian-origin religious and philosophical traditions concerned with suffering, impermanence, conduct, meditation, wisdom, karma and liberation.

Context and scope

Buddhism includes Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana and numerous regional traditions. Teachings and practices differ significantly. Buddhism should not be reduced to meditation alone or presented as entirely non-religious or uniformly atheistic.
