Sikhism

A monotheistic religion founded in the Punjab through the teachings of Guru Nanak and the Sikh Gurus, emphasising devotion to one God, equality, honest work, service and remembrance of the divine.

Context and scope

Sikh teaching is preserved principally in the Guru Granth Sahib. Sikh identity also includes historical, communal and institutional dimensions. Religious ideals should be distinguished from the conduct of particular individuals, organisations or political groups.
